Capsule Geology

The Tootsee Star showing is located near the Tootsee River in the Cassiar Mountains, just south of the Yukon-British Columbia border.

A narrow shear zone in cherts, limestones and argillites of the Mississippian Slide Mountain Complex contains quartz veinlets with disseminated galena, sphalerite and pyrite. A grab sample assayed 35.3 grams per tonne silver, 30.2 per cent zinc, and 0.12 per cent lead (Fieldwork 1986, page 191). The showing has been oxidized and silicified.

In 1979, claims were staked to cover anomalously high silver, lead and zinc values obtained from a government silt sampling program that was conducted in 1978. In 1979, a short helicopter examination was conducted by W. Lumley and R. Bujas with 20 silt samples taken for analysis and the Renee 1 claim was added to the south of Toots 4. In 1980, two phases of exploration were conducted; the first phase consisted of a cursory geological mapping plus 275 soil samples and 20 rock assays which led to the staking of the Beth 1-4 claims. In 1981, exploration by Brinco Mining Limited consisted of geological mapping and extending the previous year's geochemical sampling.
